Secondary Music Teacher Kent Knappenberger
named Grammy Music Educator of the Year 2014
A champion of music education in our rural, community school district has won the first ever GRAMMY Music Educator of the Year Award and the Westfield Academy and Central School Community could not be prouder of veteran teacher Kent Knappenberger.
Nominated by former students, Mr. Knappenberger was one of 30,000 educators across the nation nominated for this first ever award. After the submission of a four-minute teaching video, two detailed essays and a six-minute video about his teaching philosophy, Mr. Knappenberger was notified he was in the top 25 nominees. During the press conference to announce GRAMMY Nominees, Mr. Knappenberger was announced as one of the 10 finalists. He was the only music educator from New York State in the final round. Mr. Knappenberger was revealed as 2014 GRAMMY Music Educator of the Year during the live broadcast of the CBS Morning Show on January 21st. Mr. Knappenberger will attend the GRAMMY’s Lifetime Achievement Award luncheon in California and participate in GRAMMY week.
Westfield Academy and Central School is a rural K-12 school district in Westfield, NY with approximately 730 students.
The District held a Red Carpet Celebration on January 15th to celebrate Mr. Knappenberger being designated as one of ten finalists for this first-ever award. Students in grades 4-12 participated in the celebration.
The District will be hosting a Community Reception for Kent Knappenberger and his family on Friday, January 31st from 6-8 p.m. in cafeteria. Please plan to attend this special event.
